The Norwegian team participating in the EUCanScreen Joint Action consists of experts from the Cancer Registry of Norway, contributing to multiple work packages (WPs) with their specialised knowledge in cancer screening and epidemiology.

Mari Nygård

Leading efforts in reducing inequalities in cancer screening
As the Head of the Department of Research at the Cancer Registry of Norway, Mari Nygård brings extensive expertise in HPV-related cancers and prevention strategies. With a medical background from Estonia and a PhD in epidemiology from Finland, she has played a crucial role in shaping cervical cancer prevention policies, both in Norway and globally. Under her leadership, WP6 focuses on reducing inequalities in cancer screening participation by identifying and overcoming systemic and individual barriers. She is also involved in WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4, WP9, and WP10.

Ameli Tropé

Strengthening cervical cancer screening programs
Ameli Tropé is the head of CervicalScreen Norway, with extensive experience in cancer screening program implementation and research. She is involved in WP1, WP2, WP9, WP10, and WP11, contributing expertise in quality assurance and effectiveness of cervical cancer screening. She leads Task 11.5, focusing on capacity building in cancer screening by developing a competence framework for colposcopy training and guidelines for operating a colposcopy clinic.

Elisabeth Jakobsen

Advancing best-practice communication in screening
As the Head of Communications at the Cancer Registry of Norway, Elisabeth is dedicated to ensuring clear and effective dissemination of research findings and screening information. She leads Task 6.8, which focuses on developing a best-practice communication toolkit, including video materials designed to improve public understanding of cancer screening. Her background in journalism and health communication strengthens efforts to reach diverse populations. She is involved in WP1, WP2, WP4, and WP6.

Ensuring smooth project coordination
A seasoned project manager, Hilde brings a wealth of experience from diverse sectors, ensuring smooth coordination of initiatives. Her structured approach and analytical skills drive the implementation of best practices across multiple European countries. She is involved in WP1-11.

Margrethe Meo

Margrethe Meo

Driving research coordination and data-driven policy recommendations
With a background in geography and epidemiology, Margrethe plays a vital role in research administration and project coordination within WP6. She contributes to multiple tasks, including addressing barriers in Central and Eastern Europe, improving screening access for people with intellectual disabilities, and increasing health literacy. Her expertise ensures that data-driven insights shape effective policy recommendations.

Solveig Hofvind

Enhancing breast cancer screening strategies
Solveig Hofvind is the head of the Section for Breast Cancer Screening at the Cancer Registry of Norway. She leads BreastScreen Norway, providing expertise on mammography-based screening. She is involved in WP7, focusing on the implementation and improvement of existing breast cancer screening programs.

Improving colorectal cancer screening implementation
Kristin Randel is the head of the Section for Colorectal Cancer Screening, managing Norway's national screening program. She is the project manager of the national pilot project for ColorectalScreen Norway and is engaged in WP4 and WP11, ensuring the sustainability and improvement of colorectal cancer screening efforts.

Giske Ursin

Contributing leadership in cancer data monitoring
Giske Ursin is the director of the Cancer Registry of Norway and a Professor II at the University of Oslo. Her research interests include breast cancer, epidemiology, and legal challenges in data sharing. She is involved in WP5, contributing leadership in data monitoring and evaluation strategies.

Heidi Beate Bentzen

Heidi Beate Bentzen

Addressing legal and ethical challenges in data sharing
Heidi Beate Bentzen is a researcher at the Centre for Medical Ethics, with a legal background specialising in health data protection. She is an expert in biotechnology law, privacy, and health data governance and is involved in WP5, addressing legal and ethical barriers to cross-border data sharing.

Siri Larønningen

Siri Larønningen

Enhancing cancer registry data and international collaboration
Siri Larønningen has been with the Cancer Registry of Norway since 2004, working in roles related to medical coding, data delivery, and registry management. She has led the data input unit, ensuring that all relevant information is collected efficiently. Since 2019, she has played a central role in the secretariat for the Association of the Nordic Cancer Registries - NORDCAN, contributing to international cancer data collaboration. She is involved in WP5, working in collaboration with Giske and Heidi.

Paula Berstad

Paula Berstad

Developing tailored interventions for colorectal cancer prevention
Paula Berstad is a researcher specializing in colorectal cancer screening and prevention. With a background in nutrition and epidemiology, she explores the links between diet, lifestyle, and cancer risk. Within WP6, she contributes to Task 6.4, which aims to develop tailored interventions to enhance screening participation among immigrant populations.

Eilen Aalerud

Eilen Aalerud

Supporting communication strategies for diverse audiences
Eilen Aalerud has a background in marketing, branding, and content creation. She supports the development of communication strategies within WP6, Task 6.8, particularly in crafting engaging and accessible materials for diverse audiences.

Jo Røislien

Jo Røislien

Bridging science and public engagement
A professor in medical statistics and an expert in science communication, Jo contributes to WP6, Task 6.8 by developing innovative ways to present statistical data and complex health information. His work helps transform research findings into actionable insights for policymakers and the public alike.

Kaitlyn Tsuruda

Kaitlyn Tsuruda

Advancing statistical and epidemiological analysis
Kaitlyn is a statistician and data manager in the Research Department's Section for Administration and Research Support. She supports researchers in different stages of the research process: from data management and documentation to statistical analyses and data interpretation, as well as manuscript writing. She is involved in WP6 Task 6.4.1.

Thea is a researcher at the Section for Molecular Epidemiology and Infections, focusing on HPV vaccination and cervical cancer prevention. She is involved in WP9 and WP10.

Hilde is a researcher and head of the Section for Molecular Epidemiology and Infections. She leads multiple studies on cancer biomarkers and is involved in WP10.

Rune Kvåle

Rune Kvåle

Strengthening oncology research and registry studies
Rune is an oncology specialist at Haukeland Hospital in Bergen and a researcher at the Cancer Registry. His research focuses on clinical registry studies and epidemiology. He is involved in Task 8.3 Support to methodology and harmonisation of data sets of prostate cancer screening, under WP8.

The Norwegian team plays a crucial role in EUCanScreen by leading and supporting various work packages, ensuring high-quality research, implementation, and sustainability of cancer screening programs across Europe. Their expertise in epidemiology, clinical research, law, and data management strengthens the project’s overall impact in improving cancer screening strategies.

The general objective of EUCanScreen is to assure sustainable implementation of high-quality screening for breast, cervical and colorectal cancers, as well as implementation of the recently recommended screening programs – for lung, prostate and gastric cancers. EUCanScreen will facilitate the reduction of cancer burden and achieving equity across the EU.
