Football day on Friday 19/4/2024 for schools participating in the European project Health4EUkids. A day for which the students of the 29th Primary School of Patras and the 32nd Primary School of Patras were particularly looking forward to and finally enjoyed every aspect of it. Wearing T-shirts with the project’s logo, they played and had fun, while at the end their effort was rewarded with the awarding of medals and a cup.
The action is part of the implementation of Work Package 5 (W.P. 5) “GRUNAU MOVES” of Health4EUkids. The aim is to increase children’s awareness on health and physical exercise for a comprehensive lifestyle approach.
It was organized at the Patras DIAS Football Academies and included a championship with twelve teams from both schools (5 from the 29th and 7 from the 32nd) with different colors on the shirts. The games and especially the final with the “dramatic” penalty shootout (4-2) offered unique moments of sporting action to the children while the grandstands also experienced their own agony. A total of 22 matches of an adapted duration to the children’s age were held.
The Commander of the 6th Health ADM, Giannis Karvelis, known for his love of sports, was close to the young football players for a while despite his tight schedule.
Professor Apostolos Vantarakis, Scientific Manager of the project, refereed many matches and the grand final.
From the Pediatric Clinic of Universital General Hospital of Patras who supports the project, Eleni Papachatzi, Pediatrician and Postdoctoral Researcher of the Hygiene Laboratory, Dept. of Medicine, University of Patras.
The presence and contribution of the volunteers and staff of the 6th Health ADM involved in the project was valuable in the implementation of the action.
